Bhubaneswar Institute of Technology (BIT) is organizing the Odisha Computer Programming Marathon (OCPM) amongst Students of BE / B.Tech / BCA/ MCA /MSc /+3 Science. This is an initiative to encourage students from Odisha to participate in Programming Marathons held at National and International levels. OCPM would become an Annual event in the IT calendar of the state from 2010 onwards and will be instrumental in raising the standards and skill level of our students in computer programming. In turn, OCPM would also contribute towards the efforts of positioning Odisha as an attractive IT destination for investors from within and outside the country.
The marathon would involve competition among teams / groups comprising of not more than four students from the same educational institute. Each team has to register itself online on or before 05st April 2010. There will be two rounds of evaluation. Pre-marathon Screening Test will be done on 24th April 2010. Model questions for Pre-marathon Screening Test and Marathon final round will be available in www.bit.edu.in/ocpm. Based on the performance of the Pre-marathon Screening Test, selected teams will be eligible to participate in the Marathon final held on 25th April 2010. Both the test will be done in BIT Campus.
Each participant must be a student continuing BE / B.Tech / BCA / MCA /MSc / +3 Science in Odisha.
- First prize : Rs. 50,000/- in cash to the winning team and the “State’s smartest trophy”
- Second prize : Rs. 25,000/- in cash to the 1st runner-up team
- Third prize : Rs. 15,000/- in cash to the 2nd runner-up team
- The Registration Form could be downloaded from www.bit.edu.in.
- The filled in Registration Form should be mailed as an attachment from the mail id of one of the team members to ocpm2010@bit.edu.in on or before 05th April 2010.
- Upto four students from the same institute can register as one team. This means a team could also comprise of even 3 or 2 students.
- No Registration fee will be charged from Participants.
Problems, and Languages

- All the teams are presented with a set of problems to solve. Problems are selected from domains such as mathematics, computer science, cryptology, logic, and business. Students may program in C/C++.
- All problems will require input and output to be in text form. Programs must read data from standard input (the keyboard), and access to data files will be via I/O redirection from the command line.
- Programs must not open any files. You will be supplied with a set of test data for each problem. Programs will be judged with official data files in the specified format.

Environment that you use

- Each team will be assigned a workstation accessing with Linux OS.
- Standard Unix tools will be available as well. Volunteers will be present to assist teams with the mechanics of editing, compiling, and running programs. Our goal is to create the fairest possible environment for our competitors.
- We have chosen to use a Unix/Linux computer server so that all teams are using the same computer, providing the same computing power to all competitors.
- In all the rounds there is no negative marking.
- Full marks will be awarded to short questions for correct answer and no marks will be awarded for partially correct answer.
- For long questions (C/C++ program) step marks will be awarded.
Rules of the competition are as follows:
- Maximum four members per team are allowed.
- One computer workstation to two team members.
- Electronic aids and media are not permitted: no disks, USB memory keys, laptop computers, palmtop computers, calculators, or cell phones.
- You may use the calculator program on your workstation.
- You may bring printed documentation, such as texts, manuals, and printouts.
- Contestants may not leave the contest area during the contest period.
- Advisors are not permitted in the contest area during the contest period.
- Winner will be determined first by the number of correct solutions, and secondly by the submission time of the last correct solution.
- Advisors are invited to the show-up and practice session, but must leave the contest area upon start of the contest.
Term and conditions to postpone or cancel the marathon ?
- If someone cheats, or a virus, bug, disastrous event, or any other unpredicted or unexpected event that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled affects the fairness and / or integrity of this Competition, we reserve the right to postpone, or cancel this Competition. This right is reserved whether the event is due to human or technical error. If a solution cannot be found to restore the integrity of the Competition, we reserve the right to select winners from among all eligible teams received before we had to postpone or cancel the Competition.
- If you attempt to compromise the integrity or the legitimate operation of this Competition by hacking or by cheating then we may debar you from participating in the competition and also in any of our future Competition.
