DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING

The department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) is a pioneering academic center for engineering education, research, and innovation in key areas of electronics. It constantly strives to produce qualified engineers with solid hands on experience in the fast changing areas of electronics, instrumentation and communication Engineering. The driving mission for the department is to advance the frontiers of research in electronics and impart world-class training in electronics engineering for students.
The department has been modernized with assistance received from various agencies. Cypress Semiconductor USA has assisted with the tools and equipment’s for the Programmable systems on Chip Laboratory which the students can use from the beginning of their curriculum and develop practical knowledge on chip design, embedded systems. Also Logic design Inc. from Canada signs MOU with the BIT to setup a circuit design lab in the department of electronics. Currently the department has sophisticated and modern laboratory equipment and intends to undertake several research and development projects in the areas of Circuit Design, Embedded Systems, Robotics, Digital Signal processing and Intelligent Instrumentation.
History
The department of Electronics & Communication engineering was established in the year 2009. It aims at producing qualified engineers in the areas of electronics, communication engineering, and instrumentation. The department is well equipped with a group of highly qualified and dynamic faculty members. It boasts of laboratory facility to be one of the best in the state. Summer training, industrial visit and projects are carefully planned for the students to remain updated with the technology trend. Seminars and short courses are regularly organized to update the students with the latest in the education and industry trends by faculties from reputed organizations from India and abroad.
Academics
ECE department offers B.Tech program in electronics and communication engineering. Our degree programs provide a solid foundation in core and emerging areas of electronics and trains students to become a skilled engineer. A comprehensive description of the degree requirements is available in our information brochure.
Facilities
Basic Electronics Laboratory
This lab is equipped with several electronic equipments such as CROs, Function Generators, and Universal Trainer boards, various experimental kits and sufficient amount of discrete electronic components for better understanding the initial practical knowledge of basic electronics. The experiments to students’ ratio are 1:2 for better understanding.
Analog Circuit Design Laboratory
This lab trains the students to understand the analog circuit designs both in hardware and software platforms. The hardware section is equipped with breadboards, discrete regulated power supplies, wave generators, various experimental kits and several discrete electronic components. The software section includes circuit logics software and 15 desktop computers. In the software section students are trained to simulate various analog circuit designs which help the students to understand the various aspects of analog circuit designs.
Digital Electronics Laboratory
The students in the digital electronics lab understand the digital circuit design using hardware and software based tools. The hardware section of this lab equipped with number of digital ICs, power supplies, breadboards and display devices. The software section includes 15 computers, 15 number of BASYS2, FPGA boards from Digilent Inc.USA supported by XILINX 10.1 software for digital circuit design and simulation up to 100K gates. The experiments to student ratio are 1:3 for hardware section followed by 1:2 ratios for software section.
Programmable System on CHIP Laboratory (PSOC)
This laboratory is the pride of BIT, it a sponsored lab from Cypress semiconductor Inc, USA for embedded system design and mixed signal processing. This facility is available to few institutions including IITs in India. This lab is equipped with PSOC kits, PSOC1 and PSOC3 software, different kind of sensors and high configured desktop computers for simulation and design purpose. Students trained in this lab to understand the embedded system design and mixed signal processing. This lab organizes summer training courses both for students and faculties every year.
